CoCo’s crispy, cocky, sticky, sweet and at least somewhat funny. That might sound pejorative but it’s not, it’s actually a major compliment. Happy Birthday to the man who has done so much to make Americans forget about their problems by spreading pure, unadulterated, canned laughter like it was peanut butter and jelly. Conan O’Brien started as a writer for the long-running animated series The Simpsons and then landed his own perch in late night just as another funny Aries guy, David Letterman, bolted for CBS after he was denied the Tonight Show throne.
As was highly chronicled, Conan accepted the Tonight chair to replace Leno but CoCo got the boot after just seven months due to lackluster ratings. Now he’s on TBS. I love the giant moon that’s part of his set. If you look closely at it, his TBS show set is made to resemble that of the old Johnny Carson-era Tonight Show, with the blue-colored night time mountains and pool of water to serve as backdrop. Leno, on the other hand, is at NBC still stuck in the awful set they built for his ill-fated 10 PM show. I also like Leno’s old theme music better. Bring it back!
